Welcome to Owl Class Presentation from the 'Back to School' Evening

Owl Class Teaching and Learning

In Owl Class, we follow the Cornerstones Curriculum as a basis for our teaching and learning.

More information can be found by following this link on our Website;

There will be information about each theme in the form of a theme 'Padlet' as well as information on the Class Page on the Website.

Owl Class P.E. Days

Our P.E. Days in Owl Class are TUESDAY and FRIDAY.

Please ensure that P.E. Kit is in School on a Tuesday and Friday, any earrings are removed and long hair is tied back. Thank you! smiley

Owl Class Library Day

Our Library Day in Year 1 is a TUESDAY.

Your child is able to choose a Library Book on a Tuesday and keep for a week.

*Permission slips must be signed and returned before your child is able to take a book*

Owl Class Reading Books

Reading books in Owl Class will be changed on a MONDAY and FRIDAY if they have been read at home.  Please indicate by signing your child's blue home-school reading record. Children who read at home are rewarded with a team point and Golden Ticket.  Children also have a 'Reading Log' at the front of their blue home-school reading record.  Children are expected to read at home at least 5 times per week. Children achieving this expectation will receive a reading certificate at the end of the term and earn a treat! Please sign the grid to indicate the number of times per week your child is reading.

More information about reading can be found on the website

Owl Class Bug Club

All children have their own log in to 'Bug Club'.  Here they will find a collection of books suitable for their reading level.  The children will be allocated a new set of books at the end of each term based on their reading level at the end of the term. Children can earn golden tickets for reading 'Bug Club' books and these can contribute towards their weekly reading (please indicate 'Bug Club' on the grid at the front of their blue book).

Owl Class Spelling Quiz

Children in Owl Class will be given a new list of spellings in their Spelling Book on a FRIDAY from the beginning of Term 2.

A Spelling Quiz to check their Spellings will take place the following Friday giving children 1 week to learn their Spellings.  The Spellings will contain a mix of words with newly learnt sounds in as well as some Common Exception Words.  Please help your child to practise these spellings and encourage them to apply them in any writing done at home.  If your child knows the Spellings confidently, practise applying them in a sentence and also remember to revisit Spellings from previous weeks as sometimes they are not always retained.

Owl Class Maths Homework

Maths Homework will be set each Thursday afternoon.  We will practise each activity in Class during the day on a Thursday.  Your child will be able to Log In to their Abacus Account and complete the set homework. The activities will cover a variety of basic Maths Skills. Children completing all of the Term's activities will receive a certificate at the end of term.

Owl Class Family Challenges

Each child has their own Family Challenge Book.  There is a list of ideas you can complete together at home to supplement the theme in Class. We would like each child to complete at least 1 challenge, but there is no limit! Each challenge completed and brought into School can earn 10 team points and an acknowledgement in our Celebration Assembly!
